Now in its 3rd year, Edinburgh's annual raft race has evolved to become the Edinburgh Canal Festival, a full day of nautical adventure with samba, salsa and water-walking to name a few of the activities on offer.
32 teams will compete in this year's raft race, with masses of other activities happening from Edinburgh Quay to Harrison Park. Action will be at the Lochrin Basin (Edinburgh end of the Union Canal, near Cargo bar). Events kick off at 10am, races start at 11am, with prizes awarded around 5pm.
This year along with the raft race there will be free boat trips, a floatilla of human powered crafts, canoes and hydrozorbs (hamster balls for the water).
There will be lots of opportunities for people to get onto boats and have a look around them.Land based activities will include a schools mural display, craft and community stalls, street performers, BBQ and a variety of food tasting stalls. Music includes the Edinburgh Samba School, Jazz, Ceilidh, Drumming and Pipe Bands.
Car parking will be available for only £2 (8am-6pm) underneath the Edinburgh Quay Building and £3 (8am-6pm) at the Scottish Widows Building.

Internet Festival Hijacked!
The annual Edinburgh Internet Festival was founded in 1999 as the first online resource for artists and performers attending the Edinburgh Festival. Additional aims of the event have always been to encourage and promote the digital arts within Scotland and to explore the benefits of digital technology within local communities at a grass-roots level.
For almost 10 years the event has been refused all requests for funding or support from Edinburgh Council - The Scottish Arts Council - The Scottish Government.
The forthcoming launch of the Festivals Edinburgh ‘Digital Hub’ project is so similar in aims and objectives to those of the Internet festival that the future of the entire event will have to be reconsidered.
It is ironic that the very body set up to assist and promote Edinburgh’s festivals has in effect killed off the Internet festival - As is also the fact that 'Festivals Edinburgh' is funded by Edinburgh Council - The Scottish Arts Council - The Scottish Government.

ACE IT - Finalists of Nominet's 'Best Practice Challenge'
As creative and web designer with Age Concern Edinburgh Information Technology (ACE IT) - I am delighted to announce that ACE IT has been shortlisted for the finals of the Nominet 'Best Practice Challenge' under the category 'Best Development Project'.When I first joined ACE IT back in 2002 I had no idea the whirlwind rollercoaster ride I was about to embark upon. Over the years the project's core objective of providing training for the 50+ age group in computing and the internet has gone from strength to strength and become a model for computer training organisations across Scotland (and beyond). In addition, ACE IT has both instigated and developed in partnership with other organisations a wide range of social inclusion and community web development initiatives including the ACE IT Silver Surfers Festival, the multi-award winning 'Edinburgh Silver Surfers' and the 'Moose In The Hoose' project.
At a personal level, involvement with ACE IT has greatly helped me in relation to discovering ways and methods of working around my own disabilities and also in developing my own creative and web design skills. There has also been a number of unforgettable and amazing moments along the way - such as the day the Edinburgh Silver Surfers visited Edinburgh Castle to assist in firing the world famous 'One O'clock Cannon' (Visit) - The exclusive VIP guided tour of H.M.S Edinburgh (Visit) - The discovery of lost music from the Isle of St Kilda (Visit) - And the moment we realised that the photographs provided by a member of the People's War Group recording in detail the surrender of the German U-Boat fleet at the end of WW2 (Visit) - Were not available anywhere else on the web!
From Management Committee - To Staff and Volunteers - To clients and members of the project's outreach programmes... Everyone involved with ACE IT is delighted, honoured and thrilled to have reached the final stages of the Nominet Best Practice Challenge. Win or lose - the nomination alone is seen by all as positive recognition that the hard work and outstanding effort shown across all aspects of the organisation are having a real grass-roots impact both within our own local communities and beyond.
